Jimmy Rabbitte (Robert Arkins) has decided that Dublin needs “soul”. He sets out to establish a soul band.. He holds auditions in his parent’s home, looking for musicians who’s influences are James Brown, Aretha Franklin, and other US soul groups. After a long search, he finally assembles a band. His lead singer is the rough Deco Cuffe (Andrew Strong) who is has an outstanding voice and an incredible temper. Helping Jimmy run the band is the only experienced musician in the lot, Joey “The Lips” Fagan (Johnny Murphy) on trumpet. As the band rises in popularity, so do the troubles among the members. The backup singers begin to argue over who is dating Joey Fagan, the musicians in the band are upset that Deco gets all the notoriety. Deco can’t seem to stay out of trouble. Jimmy himself is sidetracked by backup singer, Natalie Murphy (Maria Doyle Kennedy). The band finally has to get over the hurdles that come with fame or lose everything trying.
