Chihiro (main character, 10 year old girl) and her parents find an abandoned park while traveling to their new home. The park only seems deserted and is inhabited by spirits that come out in the dark to enoy themselves in the spirit bathhouse. Chihiro's parents turn into pigs, but Chihiro meets a young boy Haku that helps her get a job at bathhouse from witch Yubaba and remain safe. While working at the bathhouse, Chihiro cleans a polluted river spirit that gives her a special medicine. A strange spirit No Face also appears and starts giving gold to all the greedy spirits, devouring them after that. Haku, that can take a form of a dragon gets attacked by strange paper birds, that turn out to be sent by Zeniba, a twin sister of the witch Yubaba. He stole her gold seal and she Zeniba turns Yubaba's gigant baby into a mouse, and her pet bird into a fly. In order to help Haku Chihiro gives him half of the herbal medicine, but he is still ill. She gives the other half to the rampaging spirit thereby making him vomit all the spirits he devoured. She decides to go to Zeniba and beg her to forgive haku. Chihiro gets train tickets from Kamaji, the boiler man and goes to Zeniba together with Yubaba's baby (now a mouse), bird and the spirit No Face. It turns out that Zeniba is a good witch, unlike her sister and tells Chihiro that Haku has already been healed. Haku goes to Yubaba and demands that she lets Chihiro and her parents go, in return for her giant baby Boh that has followed Chihiro (in the form of a mouse). Haku picks up Chihiro and brings her back to Yubaba. She now must guess witch pigs are her parents. She says that none of them are, and since she guessed correctly she and her parents are allowed to leave.
